International Honors Program Health and Community OR Cities in the 21st Century
|
On each of IHP's study abroad programs, a relatively small group of students and faculty will travel together to several different countries. The group will spend between four and eight weeks in each country while examining issues related to the program theme. The exploration of issues will involve direct contact and interaction with local experts, activists, educators, community members, public figures, and leaders of various government and community organizations. Students will take four classes per semester, earning sixteen credits. Students will augment classes with various site visits and interactive learning experiences. | ||

Students examine wetlands, soil, mangroves, shrimp farms, aquaculture, migratory bird habitats, freshwater swamps, and grasslands, and explore issues of sustainable development, pressures on natural resource exploitation, and ecotourism in Viet Nam and Cambodia. This program features lecturers and program support from Can Tho University, which is internationally recognized for its research on marine aquaculture and water management. | ||
CET Vietnam Immersion
|
CET's Vietnam Immersion strikes a careful balance between Vietnamese language, Vietnamese Studies courses and service learning opportunities. It also emphasizes students' individual needs by offering course choices and independent study. During the fall and spring semesters, CET's Vietnam Immersion is a fifteen-week program based in Ho Chi Minh City and includes a ten-day study tour to north and central Vietnam. Throughout the program, students study Vietnamese language and undertake a required seminar that surveys contemporary Vietnam, a required independent study project or service learning placement, and one other core Vietnamese Studies class. For this class, students may pick from topics such as: Visual Anthropology & Media Studies, Modern Vietnamese History, Vietnam's Economic Development, The War with America, Vietnam's Environmental Issues and Vietnamese Literature. All of the special topic courses are taught in English by American or Vietnamese faculty. | ||
