The State University of New York (SUNY) currently offers more than 400 overseas study programs in more than 50 countries: in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Programs range from 2-3 week intensive courses to a semester or academic year abroad. Courses are available in more than 100 subjects, ranging alphabetically from aboriginal studies and aerospace engineering to western philosophy and women's studies. While many programs focus on language learning and are conducted in the language of the host country, many others are conducted wholly or partly in English.

Studying the ocean and human interaction with the ocean, students undertake coursework ashore in oceanography, nautical science and maritime literature and history, followed by a practical component of hands-on marine science and blue-water sailing in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. Students are full participants aboard in the operation and navigation of a 134' brigantine with a scientific mission and ongoing student research projects. All programming is accredited and available for any major.

Students will have the unique opportunity to study in Spain for a full semester and earn 12-15 hours of credit or a summer for 6 credits. Students will attend classes in the historic town of Trujillo and will stay with families there. In addition to visits to local sites of interest, there will be excursions to Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, Sevilla and Granada.
