Tunisia: Emerging Identities in North Africa
|
This interdisciplinary program includes an intensive course of study on history, mass media and popular culture, youth issues, politics, globalization and the culture of Tunisia. The Popular Culture and Globalization seminar will consist of a series of guest lectures by local academics, experts, government and private sector leaders and other professionals, as well as excursions to a number of important sites throughout the region. The Field Study Seminar addresses culturally appropriate, ethical field methodology in the context of migration issues, in preparation for the Independent Study Project (ISP). Study of Tunisian Arabic or Modern Standard Arabic opens windows into the culture and the theme of the program.

The first two weeks in Tunisia consist of Arabic language lessons, classes, seminars, and travel focused on Tunisia’s ancient and modern history and its cultures, societies, and pathways to economic development. Participants then shift to the English Language Village located near the Mediterranean seaside town of Nabeul to serve as Language & Cultural Fellows.
