The academic program at the Mediterranean Center for Arts and Sciences is based on the American university credit system. MCAS offers two full semester programs (from September to December and from January to April), two Summer Sessions (May to June and July to August) a 3 - week intersession program in January. In collaboration with John Cabot University, Rome and Florence University of the Arts, MCAS also offers two year-long programs in Classical studies and Art History. Rich in history, remarkable architectural diversity, and natural wonders, Sicily is a rich resource for the study of Ancient, later and contemporary Mediterranean cultures.

The Art History in Italy Academic Year Program offers students the opportunity to take a full year of courses that cover the most fundamental aspects of Western Art History. Students enrolling in the one year Art History in Italy program will attend MCAS during the fall semester, and Florence University of the Arts (FUA) in the spring.

Italy Immersion: Mediterranean and Italian Studies in Sicily

Students in every term are required to take Italian language and the Mediterranean History and Culture course. CET Sicily students will also take three electives during the fall/spring term and one in the summer term. Elective courses are offered in ancient and modern history, archeology, philosophy, art and architectural history and Italian literature, culture and politics. To help students become acclimated to living in Catania, students begin the Sicily program with three weeks of intensive Italian instruction in the fall and spring terms and two weeks in the summer. Advanced language students may also choose to direct enroll in one to two courses at the University of Catania for an additional fee, if they meet certain requirements. This opportunity is available only in the spring term or for a full academic year. Please contact CET if you are interested in this opportunity.

The Classical World in Italy Academic Year Program offers students the opportunity to take a full year of courses covering the most fundamental aspects of Greek and Roman studies (Archaeology, History, Thought, Literature and Language). Students will be exposed to the most vital aspects of Greek and Roman civilization.
