The Scholar Ship

Participating in an intercultural academic program while traveling the world aboard a passenger ship is an extraordinary opportunity. The Scholar Ship embarks on a semester-long journey around the world twice a year, commencing each January and September. Itineraries vary from voyage to voyage, but all are planned to provide engaging learning experiences through our port program that complements the curriculum on board.

Sea|mester
|
A unique educational adventure set aboard traditionally rigged schooners while voyaging throughout the world's oceans. Student's may select to sail the near coastal waters of the Caribbean Sea or cross a major ocean, such as the Indian, Atlantic or Pacific. Sea|mester is fully accredited. Based upon principles of experiential education, the primary academic foci of oceanography, marine biology, nautical science, and leadership are brought from the textbook into real life application.

SEA Education Association SEA Semester
|
Studying the ocean and human interaction with the ocean, students undertake coursework ashore in oceanography, nautical science and maritime literature and history, followed by a practical component of hands-on marine science and blue-water sailing in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. Students are full participants aboard in the operation and navigation of a 134' brigantine with a scientific mission and ongoing student research projects. All programming is accredited and available for any major.

Participants will join a crew of experienced sailors, talented professionals and creative students aboard the tall ship "EMPIRE SANDY" for an experience of a lifetime! A "flag ship" in the defense of Mother Earth, this 200 ft schooner offers a unique opportunity to promote understanding between diverse cultures and disciplines, while supporting important local efforts of environmental protection in the beautiful islands of the Grenadines, West Indies.
