Semester at Sea sails three voyages each year for academic credit. Unlike traditional immersion programs, we give you a taste of the entire globe as you travel more than 24,000 nautical miles to as many as 12 off-the-beaten-path international destinations or to a fascinating world region for intensive exploration. Approximately 75 upper- and lower-level courses are offered in a variety of subject areas.


SEA Semester: Ocean Exploration (Interdisciplinary)

An interdisciplinary ocean studies semester which combines natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences with hands-on research and sailing experience. Understanding the oceans is an essential aspect of appreciating how the world works and how we relate to it as human beings. The sea is so complex that it is impossible to comprehend from the perspective of a single academic discipline. With that in mind, this interdisciplinary SEA Semester program combines insights from oceanography, humanities, and social sciences with practical skills in seamanship, allowing students to deepen their awareness of and appreciation for the ocean through hands-on research and personal experience.

Sea|mester

A unique educational adventure set aboard traditionally rigged schooners while voyaging throughout the world's oceans. Student's may select to sail the near coastal waters of the Caribbean Sea or cross a major ocean, such as the Indian, Atlantic or Pacific. Sea|mester is fully accredited. Based upon principles of experiential education, the primary academic foci of oceanography, marine biology, nautical science, and leadership are brought from the textbook into real life application.

ActionQuest Summer Programs

Worldwide sailing and diving adventures for teenagers. Shipmates live aboard sailing yachts for three weeks, earning sailing and scuba certifications with marine biology, water skiing, windsurfing and nautical skills. / Teen, summer live aboard program offering advanced certifications in scuba diving form PADI Advanced Open Water through to the professional Divemaster certification.

A "flag ship" in the defense of Mother Earth, this 200 ft schooner offers a unique opportunity to promote understanding between diverse cultures and disciplines, while supporting important local efforts of environmental protection in the beautiful islands of the Grenadines, West Indies.
