Semester at Sea-Spring 2010 Sustainability

Semester at Sea sails three voyages each year for academic credit. Unlike traditional immersion programs, we give you a taste of the entire globe as you travel more than 24,000 nautical miles to as many as 12 off-the-beaten-path international destinations or to a fascinating world region for intensive exploration. The Alliance for Global Education Contemporary Chinese Society and Language (Track 1) and Intensive Chinese Language (Track 2)

Program based at Fudan University, one of the leading universities in China with a long history and international reputation for academic excellence. Two tracks available: Contemporary Chinese Society and Language (Track 1), and Intensive Chinese Language (Track 2) Track 1 includes 12 hours of Chinese language courses; beginning through advanced levels available, plus a selection of China Area Studies courses taught in English. Track 2 students take 20 hours of Chinese a week and participate in a required Chinese language pledge, allowing them to focus on language acquisition. Students take part in a full schedule of excursions, events, lectures and a 9 day Field Study Trip to Sichuan or Yunnan Province designed to enhance their understanding of China and the historical and modern influences that impact its culture and people. Students complete a Capstone Academic Research Project, challenging them to engage with Chinese people from various walks of life and to deepen their understanding of China. Students share an apartment with a Chinese roommate, allowing Alliance students to get to know Chinese students on campus quickly and to engage in language and cultural exchange. No prior study of Chinese required for Track 1; two semesters of prior Chinese language study required for Track 2 | ||
