Salzburg College Summer SessionINTRODUCTION
Salzburg is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It is surrounded by picturesque mountains and is near a famous lake district, a nature setting that has attracted travelers since the Age of Romanticism. The city itself still mirrors in its historical center a thousand years of European history and culture. Its rich musical heritage is reflected in a great variety of concerts and othermusical events throughout the year. As a traditional university town, Salzburg offers an excellent background for scholarly research. In short, Salzburg is an ideal setting for a European study experience. COURSES
German Language Studies Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced levels (3 hrs).Introduction to European Art
(3 hrs) From the Middle Ages to the Early 20th Century. Emphasis on Austrian examples and field experience. Music Performance
(3 hrs) Private instructionÑpractice facilities are provided. The Mozart Project
(3 hrs) Combination of historical research and performance culminating in a lecture recital at the end of the program. Romanticism
(3hrs) Parallels of thought in German and American written works (poems, philosophy, stories), andpaintings. Includes visits to museums in Salzburg, Vienna, and Munich. The European Union
(3 hrs) An introduction to the political and economic development of Western Europe and itsrelationship with Eastern Europe and the U.S. Selected Topics in European Studies
(3 hrs) Independent study projects in history, geography. ACCOMMODATION
To maximize the cultural involvement, students live in Austrian families where they also take their breakfasts and dinners. Family accommodations are normally reserved for students up to the age of 26. Other accommodations can be made available at request. Weekday lunches are served at the Salzburg College Study Center. COST ESTIMATE: $3,300
The cost includes tuition, full room and board, local excursions and social events, a 4-day trip to Vienna (no meals other than breakfast) and a day trip to the Salzkammergut.Cost does not include transatlantic transportation
