INTRODUCTION
The University of Newcastle combines a country setting with all the advantages of city living. Situated on a breathtaking stretch of Australia's coastline, the port city of Newcastleboasts wonderful beaches, low cost of living, a very favorable climate and a casual lifestyle (and it's close toSydney, the capital of New South Wales). Established in 1965, the University of Newcastle attracts students andstaff of the highest caliber. . Today, more than 19,000 students can choose from 150 undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by eleven faculties. Students enjoy well-stocked libraries, student clubs, shops,cafes, sports facilities, modern lecture halls, and laboratories.

LIVING IN NEWCASTLE
Newcastle offers all of the usual city advantages, such as restaurants, cafes, parks and gardens, theatres, art galleries, shopping centers and nightclubs. Less than one hour's drive to the north is the impressive harbor of Port Stephens, a popular center for big game fishing, sailing, surfing and sailboarding. The University of Newcastle at Callaghan boasts one of the best campuses in Australia. Its 300 acres of natural bushland - complete with Australian wildlife - at the city's edge offer you peace and quiet; the perfect prerequisites for successful study. Central to student life on campus is the University Union, which boasts more than 20,000 members. The Union organizes many of the University's important social and cultural events.

COURSE SUBJECTS AND STRUCTURE
A semester at the University of Newcastle runs over 14 teaching weeks. A 10-credit point subject normally comprises four contact hours a week, although courses requiring laboratory work often involve more contact hours. Study abroad students must enroll for a minimum of 30 credit points and a maximum of 40 credit points. This translates into 12-16 credits.

HOUSING AND MEALS
The Callaghan campus offers single-room accommodation at three halls of residence - Edwards Hall, Evatt House and International House. The University also manages an off-campus property called Univille. Once the University has accepted your application, you will be sent information about on-campus accommodation and an application form.

The University's Accommodation Service can also help students who wish to live independently in the community.

PROGRAM COSTS
The estimated program fee for one semester abroad is approximately $4812.
A $200 deposit is required upon acceptance to the program. This will be deducted from the total amount due.
