Program Description:
Our programme will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge required by the industry, as well as encouraging you to develop the personal skills deemed essential to successful publishing. These include teamwork, sound judgement and the use of initiative, all of which are embedded in the four assessed modules which include both practical and written outcomes. MA Publishing core award focuses on the management, production and editorial knowledge and skills required for the process and business of publishing. This enables students to acheive a critical advantage in seeking employment within a competitive sector. You can choose to graduate with the core MA Publishing award, or with a specialist award in: MA Publishing: Design Commentary focuses on the authorship of publishable content such as reviews, interviews and essays on design artefacts, outputs and theory. The growing market for texts and critiques of design artefacts, processes and ideas requires capable writers and reviewers. This strand offers the opportunity to successfully engage with and form this emerging genre. MA Publishing: Digital Futures focuses on experimental approaches to the production of digital content and infrastructures, exploring new kinds of emerging information spaces. This strand enables insights and skills that will be invaluable to engage with new markets, audiences, media formats, content forms and converging/diverging media technologies. MA Publishing: Editorial Design focuses on market-led and/or experimental approaches to editorial design and visualisation, in order to create publishable outputs for a varied array of contexts through a range of digital and traditional media. There is an ever increasing demand for the design of cross platform publishing, from iPads to printed magazines, from apps to limited edition books. This strand offers the opportunity to position your design specialism within the publishing sector. MA Publishing: Illustration focuses on creating high or low-fi, publishable outputs to demonstrate your personal visual language within the exciting developing worlds of print, digital and interactive publishing. Combining traditional and digital technologies offers unparalleled opportunities for illustrators to explore their ideas and distribute their outputs to a global audience.

International Requirements:
Applicants with overseas qualifications can check their comparibility with the UK equivalent through NARIC, who provide an advisory service. If your first language is not English then evidence of English proficiency is required. The level of proficiency that is required can vary with the type of programme for which you are applying. For further advice on the appropriateness of overseas qualification and proficiency in the use of English, please contact our International Office. The minimum IELTS score for acceptable English proficiency for entry is normally 6.5.
