Program Description:

Develop a nuanced understanding of crime, deviance and criminal justice from a range of different perspectives that closely mirror the research interests of staff. View historical and contemporary issues through a number of different lenses: critical theoretical, political and practical. Explore critical debates within a local, national and global context through a dynamic approach to learning. Through blended learning, it is possible to participate remotely when necessary. This approach will engage you in partnership with lecturers, ensuring a fulfilling learning experience. You will access a range of learning tools through e-learning environments such as podcasts and electronic discussion forums. Bespoke symposiums are held during the year in fixed two-day blocks for students to attend, meet fellow students, the criminology team and renowned guest speakers from academia and practice. The symposiums provide students with the opportunity to actively participate through problem based learning, debate and discussion that challenges the existing parameters of criminology and considers the underpinning principle of social justice. The culmination of your learning journey is the completion of the dissertation, which allows you to explore a specific research area in depth, supported by individual supervision from subject experts in the criminology team. Programme content All students undertake core modules in criminological theory and research design, which aim to facilitate the advanced study of critical and theoretical perspectives within criminology and criminal justice. You are then able to select from a wide range of modules which closely reflect key areas of interest within the Criminology, including: • Organised deviance and cultures of resistance • Innovations in global justice • Surveillance, crime and control • National police pre-join qualification
