Program Description:
This programme reflects the belief that nationalism as a political phenomenon cannot be fully understood without a grasp of its historical roots. It will therefore give students the opportunity to study nationalism as both a contemporary and historical phenomenon. The programme is open to all of those with an upper second class honours degree or equivalent who are committed to the study of nationalism across a broad time-frame and different continents. Students take a core course in interpretations of nationalism; a range of optional courses which provide historical treatment of particular cases or aspects of nationalism; and a dissertation. Options from a very large range and including courses on: european integration; spain; france; empire; european enlightenment; cold war; communism; race; east asia; democracy; china; globalisation; many others.
