Program Description:
The Department of Educational Foundations in the College of Education is comprised of the following graduate program areas: -Master of Education in Elementary Education -Master of Education in Secondary Education -Master of Education in K-12 Education (Music Education) -Master of Education with Child and Family Studies Emphasis Family Studies -Early Childhood Education and Intervention -Elementary Education: The M.Ed. in Elementary Education provides advanced K-8 educators opportunities to expand their knowledge and practice in planning, delivering and assessing instruction as well as advance their content expertise within a relevant subject matter discipline (History/Social Studies, Science, English/Language Arts, or Mathematics). Secondary Education: The M.Ed. in Secondary Education provides advanced secondary educators opportunities to expand their knowledge and practice in planning, delivering and assessing instruction. The program as assist educators to advance their content expertise within a relevant subject matter discipline (History/Social Studies, Science, English/Language Arts, or Mathematics). NOTE: These are not certification degrees, but graduate students may pursue either degree while working toward certification. Program Overview Consistent with the University's role and mission, the College of Education and its faculty are professional educators who are committed to the interrelated activities of teaching, scholarship, and service. All candidates for the Master of Education in Elementary or Secondary Education at Idaho State University are expected be reflective practitioners who demonstrate a commitment to professional standards, and who displays the beliefs, values, and behaviors that guide the ethical dimensions of professional practice. All candidates are also expected to demonstrate proficiency with respect to the use of technology in their professional practice, and to understand and address issues of exceptionality and diversity in their professional practice. In addition to advancing K-12 teachers’ competencies in these broad areas, the Master of Education programs in Elementary and Secondary Education are designed to advance the abilities of certificated K-8 teachers to meet identified program standards that are aligned with state and national teaching standards. Masters programs in the Department of Educational Foundations are taught by a diverse and experienced faculty.

International Requirements:
International students (whose native language is not English) must achieve satisfactory scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). (1) TOEFL Exam: Total score of 80 with a score of at least 20 on each section (2) IELTS Exam: 6.5 or higher on the overall band (3) Level 112 from ELS Language Centers also meets the English language proficiency requirements. Students must contact the Graduate School at graddean@isu.edu before applying for ELS conditional admission in order to verify that the program of interest offers conditional admission.
