Just the Facts
StudyAbroad.com has long been the leading online directory of study abroad programs, but how many people know it is also a great resource for students either currently or planning to study abroad?
Well, it is, and has been for quite sometime.
But it just got better.
The StudyAbroad.com staff has been working tirelessly to create the StudyAbroad.com Wiki, the definitive resource for study abroad information.
A wiki is a free online encyclopedia in which anyone can add or edit information within a controlled environment. What this means is that you can go to wiki.studyabroad.com and add any information that you deem fit. If there is something important about a city in Germany that you think people should know, put it there. If you don't think there is enough information about finances in Egypt, add it. It is dynamic content, meaning it is always changing and improving. Keep in mind, however, that a group of experts are constantly reading the content to make sure it is accurate.
Imagine the possibilities. The StudyAbroad.com Wiki has the potential to be the greatest travelogue in existence.
A student can study abroad in a country and add his or her favorite restaurants, professors, tourist attractions, etc., for future students to see. Then, if someone lists a restaurant that closes down or moves locations a few months later, another student can make the necessary changes.
That means this wiki makes travel books like Lonely Planet and Frommer's outdated and unnecessary. If a student wants to know what studying in a country is like today, all he or she has to do is check out wiki.studyabroad.com to get the latest.
So advisors - please go to wiki.studyabroad.com and add any information you'd like. We want this to be as helpful as possible for students and we need your help to accomplish that.
It is still in its Beta stage. There is still a lot of work to be done. But with your help, and this great concept, we may just revolutionize how students prepare for their study abroad adventures.

Go Global!:
If your students are looking for one more chance to find the perfect study abroad program, or if you are looking for one more way to reach out to students to get them interesting in taking the leap to studying abroad, then you may want to consider attending one of four Go Global! fairs at the end of October.
Go Global! is a first class international student recruitment fair coming to the US education market. They've been doing it successfully in the Netherlands and are now making a go in the US, holding conferences in Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. Their plan is, "to bring the world's finest academic institutions into direct contact with American students looking for study opportunities abroad."
Go Global! targets study abroad students, graduate students, high school students, and workers/volunteers. You can get more information on this exciting new conference at www.GoGlobalFair.com.
The dates are:
Washington D.C., - Tuesday, October 25
Philadelphia - Wednesday, October 26
New York City - Friday and Saturday, October 28-29
Boston - Sunday, October 30.
We'll be at each one, so stop by and say hello.

The Sequel is Always Bigger:
The first season of BlogAbroad.com was an overwhelming success, garnering high praise from study abroad advisors and students, avid bloggers, and the press. We can't thank you enough for everything you did to bring attention to this great advocacy project.
But the inevitable question arises of what can we possibly do to top the rookie season.
The answer is simple. We have a sophomore season.
And, as sequels always go, Part Two is bigger and better. We have added an extra blogger, a New Zealand native studying in New York. Plus, to make things more interesting, we have a Texas native studying in New Zealand.
In addition, there is more interactivity between the bloggers, more interaction with other students, and more pictures of their adventures. They are also competing against each other in educational competitions.
If you have an idea for a competition or would like to sponsor one, contact John Duncan at jd@studyabroad.com.
Go to http://www.BlogAbroad.com to read the blogger's stories.

Tech Tips:
By Paul Fleming, Project Manager of EDU Internet Strategies
Basic PC First Aid:
If you own a PC and are attempting any major changes to the system, it is worth creating a restore point to fall back on in case anything goes wrong.
To do this, go to "Start." Then click "All programs," followed by "Accessories." Next, hit "System Tools," and then "System Restore." Select "Create a Restore Point."
Also, if you're not in the habit of backing-up your files, you should do so. Important documents, files, photos, etc. should be burned to a CD, DVD, or stored on an external hard drive just in case the unthinkable happens.
For information on making your PC run smoother and more efficiently, go to http://www.eduinsight.com/articles/pc_maintenance.html.
