To Better the Industry:
This year has been labeled the year of study abroad, and in preparation for this nice public relations push for the industry (a la what Got Milk? was for milk products everywhere) StudyAbroad.com has been working on two major projects designed solely to better the industry by getting more students interested in and prepared for studying abroad.
BlogAbroad.com is a completely free website created to help you, the dedicated study abroad advisor. It is to help you convince more students on your campus to go abroad.
The website is full of helpful advice from study abroad students and advisors, but beyond that, it is a way to witness a study abroad experience firsthand.
Anyone who comes to the site can follow the adventures of four study abroad students as they venture out of their comfort zone. The hope is that by experiencing these journeys, other students will be inspired to study abroad. We truly believe that when students go abroad they develop the ability to change the world. We want to give more people that unique ability.
Wiki.StudyAbroad.com is a similar project. Also entirely free, Wiki.StudyAbroad.com is an interactive travelogue in which anyone can add any information they want about any country in the world. The purpose is to serve as a helpful resource for students about to travel abroad. They can learn everything they need to know about a country before going there. In addition to the typical travel information like locations and reviews restaurants and hostels, the Wiki describes placed to find and take a date, events to participate in with family, way to eat for cheap, and much more.
This, coupled with the leading online resource for study abroad information, insures that StudyAbroad.com will remain one of the most powerful advocates for this important industry. We thank you for your continued support.

Explore Berlin in Summer:
Written by Eva-Maria Sina
Berlin, German capitol again since 1999 and a once divided city has now become an ever changing, lively, and colorful European metropolis.
If your students would like to come and explore the city in summer while participating in an academic program, you may want to let them know about FUBiS, Freie Universitaet Berlin International Summer University.
The intensive academic program brings together students from all over the world to promote international education and cross-cultural understanding. FUBiS takes place in two terms:
Term I (6 weeks): June 3 to July 15, 2006
Term II (4 weeks): July 22 to August 19, 2006
- Students have the opportunity to study in 25 different courses (in English) within the fields of History, Architecture, German Culture, Literature and Art, Environmental Policy, European Studies etc.
- Students can combine the content-based courses with German language courses on five different levels of proficiency.
- This enables students to participate in this unique opportunity of studying abroad in Berlin, regardless of whether they speak German or not and/or continue in a German language program.
- All courses are taught by the distinguished FUBiS faculty, consisting of highly qualified German and international professors.
- Courses are open to undergraduate and graduate students.
- Students will earn credits per course based on the number of contact hours and workload.
For more detailed information on courses, syllabi, scholarships, accommodation, excursions and program fees please visit our website at www.fubis.org or contact the FUBiS-team at fubis@fubis.org.

Redesigning StudyAbroad.com:
Based on the survey we conducted last year, we are trying to implement your changes into the site. A complete redesign should appear early June.
If there is anything you would like to see incorporated into this redesign, please contact Matt Ulmer at mulmer@edudirectories.com.
Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming survey on industry trends.

A New Adventure For Students
Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Nick Kristof is sponsoring a contest in which he will take a university student with him on a reporting trip to a remote part of Africa. Kristof and the student will “visit schools, clinics and villages, perhaps chatting with presidents in their villas and Pygmies in the rain forest.” The winner will write a Weblog for the New York Times website (http://nytimes.com) and prepare a video blog that will be shown on Mtv.
If any of your students are interested in this unique experience, send them to http://nytimes.com/winatrip.

StudyAbroad.com Photo Contest – Have one of your students featured:
StudyAbroad.com is running a photo contest where one lucky student will win a hot new iPod Nano.
Photos entered into this contest may present landmarks, landscapes, and native peoples and should attempt to capture the culture of a particular country or region. Photos in which the student is visible are also encouraged. All entries must be original photos and sent via postal mail or as high resolution digital images. Photos sent physically must be on photo-quality paper. Photos will not be returned and may be used by StudyAbroad.com for promotional brochures, websites, and related items.
If any of your students want the chance to win an iPod Nano, or simply want their beautiful photos featured on our website and viewed by millions of people, please inform them about this contest.
More information is coming.
