The New Season of Education:
Junior Year Abroad, the "reality show" produced by NBC that chronicles the experiences of students studying abroad, is getting a lot of buzz lately, but not because it is the first media source to focus on study abroad.
BlogAbroad.com has been chronicling the life-changing experiences of study abroad students for three successful seasons in 12 unique and fascinating countries. Through interactive blogs to which anyone can respond, BlogAbroad.com has been the ultimate resource for study abroad, inspiring many students to take their own journeys oversees. It is still the best site for facilitating dialogue between students.
And the fourth and most polished season is about to begin. We have four all new bloggers going to five new countries (Germany, France, India/Fiji, and Jordan), and we can't wait to share their stories. Make sure that you and your students stop by http://www.blogabroad.com every week to see what they are doing next.

A Turning Point?:
While on the subject of BlogAbroad.com, we have noticed an odd trend with our latest batch of student auditions.
A third of them are men.
This is odd because normally the auditions echo the typical study abroad demographic. That is to say - mostly Caucasian women. In fact, last season, out of almost three hundred auditions, only ten were guys.
But with this sudden surge in male auditions, does that mean that more men than ever are studying abroad? Have you noticed more guys requesting study abroad information? Have you seen this trend on your campus?
We would love some feedback on this subject. If you have noticed a trend in either direction, send me an e-mail (mulmer@edudirectories.com). Meanwhile, we will be delving deeper into this interesting situation. If the auditions are any indication of the changing state of study abroad, we are moving in the right direction.

2006 - Our Year of Study Abroad:
By John Duncan, manager of StudyAbroad.com
As the fall quickly approaches, we are starting to gear up for study abroad fairs, fall conferences, and outreaching to a new crop of students interested in leaving their homes and the comfort of their campuses to study abroad. In response to surveys and conversations with advisors, we continue to improve our site and our methods for data collection.
Feedback from advisors and students is a critical part of how we plan improvements each year. We do keep an on eye on trends and the changing landscape of cyberspace to keep pace with other informational websites, but the voice we want to hear the loudest is the study abroad knowledge community.
The last survey we conducted is a perfect example of how we can pull data for the study abroad community to find ways to increase participation.
So before the semester starts and all the good parking spots are taken, please feel free to drop us a line and let us know how to serve you better.
