Studying Abroad in Italy

Italians are very personable, loud and enthusiastic. You will notice, sooner rather than later, that Italians love to speak with their hands and engage in conversations with anyone who crosses their path. Don't be hesitant to start conversations with Italians because they will love to hear your stories, especially as an American.

The Italian clothing style, as you will soon learn, is very simple and comfortable. Here are a few simple tips to help you blend right into the Italian dress code. Italians don't like to reveal a lot of skin. If you are traveling during the summer then you will find that it may be difficult to find a comfortable balance when putting together appropriate outfits. Word of advice, avoid packing the short-shorts and belly shirts. Instead, make an effort to dress conservatively and respectfully to avoid any insulting gestures or stares from the locals.

Italy's most popular (and beautiful) destinations

Rome

Rome is one of the most photogenic cities in the world. You can step into the modern or old Roman culture and find stunning landmarks and unique scenery to photograph at almost every corner. Be sure to visit The Vatican, St. Peter's Square, the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum, just to name a few. Don't forget to explore some of Michelangelo's masterpieces in Rome too, which are located in the Vatican! In addition to its scenery, Rome is known for its fashion too. Many consider Rome the city of fashion since you can walk inside extravagant stores such as Versace, Dior, Diamani, Gucci and more. 

Florence

Visit Florence, known as one of the most gorgeous cities in Italy, is popular for its cultural and artistic heritage and rich history. Stroll through the Academia Gallery and enjoy the many works of art, particularly Michelangelo's David and Prisoners. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo of Florence, allows you to climb to the tiptop of the Duomo and see the whole city of Florence. Be sure to not leave Florence without visiting the Florence market for some shopping. 

Amalfi Coast

If you're looking for island fun on breathtaking beaches, crystal clear water and the beauties of mother nature, then a trip to the Amalfi Coast is calling your name. The cost stretches along the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula. Only in the Amalfi Coast will you see cliffs terraced with fragrant lemon trees flowing down into the dazzling seas and whitewashed villas that lay dangerously on what many consider skeptical slopes. This place is truly unforgettable!

Venice

Looking to spend a weekend in a small, unique city with traffic free streets? You should travel to Venice, considered one of the most romantic locations in italy. There are more than 400 bridges for you to walk across and over 150 canals for you to stream down on a gondola or a water taxi. How cool is that?!

No matter where in Italy you choose to study, the opportunities are endless when you travel throughout the country. With tons of destinations waiting for you to explore, Italy holds what many consider as some of the most beautiful cities in the world and location allows you to conveniently explore the rest of Europe. Believe it or not, most weekend excursions to another country are only a short bus or plane ride away. This makes it extremely helpful for students who need to be back for class on Monday!
