A how-to guide for using StudyAbroad.com

So you’re interested in studying abroad? Whether you’ve heard stories from your friends or recommendations from your academic advisor, StudyAbroad.com is a directory of study abroad programs designed to help you find the perfect study abroad program!

Here’s how:

Before we begin, it’s important to recognize that every student is different in their interests and their learning patterns. Because of this, our site is designed with various search methods to lead you in the right direction.

On StudyAbroad.com you’ll be able to start your search at any time, on any page of our website through one of two mediums: the blue search tabs found at the top of every page or the yellow “Quick Program Search” box, also found conveniently on every page.

Here’s how to use the search tabs:

In beginning, your search for a study abroad program, there’s a good chance you already have a strong idea of where you’d like to study abroad. If so, searching study abroad programs by location is a great place to start. You will find the "Countries” and "Cities" tabs on the left side of the tab bar at the top of every page. By hovering your mouse over one of these tabs you will see a dropdown list of our most popular locations, and by clicking on one of these tabs you will come to a page like the one shown below.

Here, you can select the location you had in mind or maybe explore some of the other countries where study abroad programs are offered. No matter where in the world you choose to study, you can’t go wrong!

Search by Subject:

Maybe you’ve already selected a specific major or area of study. Searching by subject is a good way to find the programs available that offer classes within your concentration. This search method, if right for you, will keep your study abroad search broad in terms of location, allowing you to explore new places to travel. You will find the “Subjects” tab to the left of the location tabs, and by clicking this tab you will be introduced to the page shown below. 

Here, you will be able to select your specific area of study. Don’t see your subject? Don’t worry, by clicking “Search Full Subject List” you will be directed by a much more comprehensive list that should include the subject you are looking for.

Search by Program Type:

Separating your search by program type would be beneficial for the more unique program types you might be looking for. This includes: summer programs, internships, volunteer programs, intersession, language intensive, high school or graduate programs, teach abroad and even full degrees abroad. To get a better idea of what these program types include, feel free to consult our reference guide: What are the Different Study Abroad Program Types? By clicking on the “Program Type” tab, you will find a list the program types offered. Here you can select the type that interests you and discover the listings in that category.

How to use the Quick Program Search:

No matter where you find yourself on StudyAbroad.com you will always find our “Quick Program Search” nearby to start a new search. Here you can explore different combinations of location, subject and program type. This kind of search is perfect for those who know exactly what they are looking for. But, not too fast! Sometimes you might overlook your options by making your search too narrow right off the bat. Be creative and explore the variety programs and opportunities we have to offer!
